چکیده
Abstract The paper presents the results of terrain subsidence monitoring in Poland’s Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB) mining area using Differential Interferometry Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) and Persistent Scatterer (PSI). study accounts for almost three million inhabitants where which started 19th century, has produced severe damage to buildings urban infrastructures past years. analysis aimed combine eight different datasets, processed two techniques, coming from various sensors covering periods. As a result, map areas that have been exposed within 3045 square kilometers was obtained. covers period twenty years intensive activities, i.e. 1992–2012. A total 81 interferograms were used study. allowed not only determine troughs (basins) formed 1992 2012 but also observe development over time. work included five sets PSI processing, temporal spatial ranges, zones residual subsidence. Based on InSAR an 521 under influence activities determined. Within subsiding zones, 312.5 rapid increase identified interferograms. combined datasets provided large-area long-term information impact Silesia Basin.

Monitoring underground coal mining - induced subsidence
Monitoring of mine subsidence by means of classical methods such as optical levelling or Global Positioning System (GPS) surveys can reveal deformations with sub-millimetre to subcentimetre precision for localised areas. However, to provide data on a reasonably dense two-dimensional (2D) benchmark grid are costly and time-consuming for all but the smallest areas. Moreover, a regular re-survey o...
متن کاملRadon problems in mining and post-mining areas in Upper Silesia region, Poland
The most important determinant of whether there is a radon problem is the presence of uranium and radium in the bedrock and overburden. As the permeability of the ground controls the ease with which radon can be transported, any cavity that exists underground has the potential to accumulate elevated levels of radon. Buildings built upon the ground surface have the potential to draw in ground ga...
متن کاملMining Subsidence Monitoring Using the Combined Insar and Gps Approach
Compared to opencut mining, underground coal mining is more common in Australia due to its lesser impact on the environment. Although there are several underground mining methods, such as the longwall, pillar, bord, and miniwall, longwall mining is the most commonly used method due to its high efficiency. However, longwall mining does lead to significant ground subsidence. Mining subsidence is ...
متن کاملThe Importance of the Mining Subsidence Reservoirs Located Along the Trans-Regional Highway in the Conservation of the Biodiversity of Freshwater Molluscs in Industrial Areas (Upper Silesia, Poland)
The objectives of the survey were to analyse the structure of the mollusc communities in the mining subsidence reservoirs that were created as a result of land subsidence over exploited hard coal seams and to determine the most predictive environmental factors that influence the distribution of mollusc species. The reservoirs are located in urbanised and industrialised areas along the Trans-Reg...
متن کاملOptical Properties of Fine Particulate Matter in Upper Silesia, Poland
Ambient particles whose aerodynamic diameters were not greater than 2.5 μm (fine fraction of Particulate Matter; PM2.5) and 1 μm (PM1; sub-fraction of PM2.5) were sampled at three sites in Upper Silesia (Poland): urban background site, rural background site, and urban traffic site. In total, 240 samples were collected between 2 August 2009 and 27 December 2010. The reflectance of the collected ...
